The Voice Timer App

✨ Motivation

Before I started to learn React Native, I already knew that I wanted to create a timer app, where I could use my voice to control it, but at the same time, I wanted the app to work completely offline, so I didn't want to use cloud-based voice recognition capabilities. When I started to develop this app, I searched for a library that would satisfy my conditions. Long story short, I found this voice recognition library, which is called React Native Vosk. I highly appreciate the work the creators of the React Native Vosk library did. In this blog post, I wanna show my app.

⏱️ Key Features of the Voice Timer App

Voice Activation: The key feature of this app is its voice activation capability. Just say "Start Timer" or "Pause Timer" (Instead of "Timer", there could be a different name), and the app responds, allowing you to focus on a task at hand without interruption.
Customizable Timers: Set timers for various activities to the time you want.
User-Friendly Interface: The app offers a clean and intuitive design, making it easy for everyone to navigate. In fact, it can be used fully without voice recognition capabilities, if you need to.
Notifications and Alerts: Receive timely notifications when your timer ends.
Works completely without the internet.

🎨 The Development Journey

Creating the Voice Timer app was an exciting journey filled with challenges and learning opportunities. I should say that I had to use some Java/Kotlin for this app to be developed, because relying solely on JavaScript just won't allow you to develop such an app as the Voice Timer, because some things were just not there yet in React Native. At least this is my opinion.
